The Memorial Union is:
- a living tribute to the men of the Davis campus who fought and died in defense of our nation.
- a memorial that will touch the lives of each new student generation.
Supported by grants from the Regents and by contributions from students, alumni, and friends, the first portion of the Memorial Union was completed in October, 1955. The name of each Gold Star Aggie was enshrined on the original mosaic fireplace in Griffin Lounge, and their life was commemorated on a page in the Golden Memory Book. The renovation of the Memorial Union completed in 2017, created the new Gold Star Aggie wall that lists the name of each Gold Star Aggie in metal relief, as well as giving the original Golden Memory Book a proper case. Additionally, this digital version of the Golden Memory Book was created so that these Aggies lives could be shared and remembered more broadly.
