Military Training

Enlisted in the US Marine Corps Reserve in San Diego, California 25 March 1948.
10 Apr 1951; granted an honorable discharge to enlist in the regular Marine Corps.
Enlisted in the US Marine Corps in San Francisco, 11 April 1951; assigned to active duty same date and transferred to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.
12 July 1951; appointed Private First Class and transferred to the Marine Tactical Air Control Squadron-3, MC Air Station, El Toro (Santa Ana) Calif.

Active Service Assignments

15 Sep 1951; Departed the continental United States.
3 Oct 1951; joined the Marine Tactical Air Control Squadron-2, Marine Air Control Group-2, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Fleet Marine Force.
3 Oct 1951 to 7 Aug 1952; participated in action against the enemy forces in Korea.
25 Aug 1952; returned to the continental United States and joined Marine Tactical Air Control Squadron-3, Marine Air Control Gp-3, Marine Air Station, El Toro, California.
Commissioned temporary Second Lieutenant, USMC, 4 May 1953 at MC Air Station, El Toro; transferred to Marine Corps Schools, Quantico, Virginia for duty under instruction in the 23d Special Basic Course; Transferred to Marine Aviation Detachment, Naval Air Basic Training Command, Naval Air Station,
Pensacola, Florida for duty as a student under instruction as a student naval aviator.
29 July 1954; transferred to Marine Barracks, Naval Air Advanced Training Command, NAS, Corpus Christi, Texas for duty under instruction.
Commissioned First Lieutenant, USMC, 3 September 1954.
Dec 1954; Transferred to Aircraft, Fleet Marine Force, Pacific, Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro, California and assigned to Marine Fighter Squadron-235, Marine Aircraft Group-11 and sent overseas where he remained as a member of this command until his death.

Lieutenant Iverson was accidentally killed* February 1956 while flying a jet plane over Tokyo, Japan.
* Broken oxygen line at 30,000 feet.
