Military Training

Enlisted in the United States Navy, July 1942; assigned to the Naval Training Program at St. Mary's College, Oakland, California.
Oct 1943; transferred to Livermore, California for Preliminary Flight Training which was followed by Advanced Flight Training at Corpus Christi, Texas.
Graduated from the Naval Flight Training Program 14 April 1943 and honorably discharged.

COMMISSIONED Second Lieutenant, Marine Corps Reserve, 14 April 1943; accepted appointment same date and assigned to active duty with the Air Operational Training Command, Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Fla.

Active Service Assignments

Apr to May 1943; in continuous service with the Air Operational Command, UAS, Jacksonville until his death.
In Service 10 month, 29 days, including prior service in the US Naval Reserve.

Lieutenant Johanson was accidentally killed 2 May 1943, in an airplane crash, Cecil Field, Jacksonville, Florida.
