Enrolled in the University of California, Davis, August 1939
Two-Year Curriculum in Agriculture
Completed four semesters in residence and then withdrew in response to the urgent request for workers in the Oakland California shipyards where he served as a welder until he volunteered for military service

Military Service

MILITARY HISTORY
Enlisted in the Army of the United States - Infantry, 10 April 1943, as Private.
Sent overseas, 26 October 1943, as Private First Class; during the ensuing three months he saw constant service in the South Pacific campaign.
In Service 9 months and 16 days.

Private First Class Duthie was killed, in action, 26 January 1944 near Bougainville, Solomon Islands.
