Military Training
Enlisted as an Aviation Cadet, United States Naval Reserve, 24 August 1942. Basic flight training at the Naval Air Station, Los Alamitos, California.
2 Feb 1942; began Advanced flight training Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas. Graduated 22 June 1943 as a Marine Corps Pilot and honorably discharged.
Commissioned
Second Lieutenant, USMCR, 23 June 1943, NAS, Corpus Christi; accepted appointment same date and was signed to active duty.
First Lieutenant, USMCR, 1 April 1944.
Active Service Assignments
23 June 1943 to Apr 1944; transferred to Marine Barracks, U.S. Naval Air Station, Miami, Florida for temporary duty in operational training. Later joined Headquarters Squadron-42, Marine Corps Air Station, Santa Barbara, California, as a torpedo bombing student.
17 Apr 1944, joined Headquarters Squadron ('RED DEVILS ' Torpedo Bombing Sq-232), Marine Aircraft Group-11, Marine Aircraft, Pacific, and departed the continental United States for service with the South Pacific Anti-Submarine Patrol.
20 Dec 1944 to 2 Feb 1945; participated in action against the enemy forces in the Yap Islands area. 1 Apr 1945 to 26 Apr 1945; similar service in the Ryukyu Islands.
Lieutenant Fox died in an airplane accident* 26 April 1945, near Okinawa Shima.
