Enlisted in the Army of the United States as an Aviation Cadet, 23 December 1941.
Jan to Mar 1942; Air Corps Training Detachment (Primary), Hemet, California.
Mar to May 1942; Aviation Cadet Det, Air Force Basic Flying School, Lemoore, California.
May to July 1942; Air Cadet Det, Army Flying School, (TE) (Advanced), Victorville, California.
Graduated from the Aviation Cadet Training Program (Pilot), 20 July 1942.

COMMISSIONED Second Lieutenant, Air Corps Reserve, 20 July 1942; accepted appointment and entered on active duty same date.

Active Service Assignments

July 1942 to Aug 1943; Co-Pilot, 400th Bomb Sq, 90th Bomb Gp (H), AAB, Greenville, South Carolina, and Southwest Pacific Area.

Lieutenant Tingley was killed in action 10 April 1943, while on a mission over New Guinea.
