Born in Coalinga, California, January 21, 1939
Graduated from Davis High School in 1956; named one of the best atheletes to ever graduate, lettered in football, basketball and track, was Senior Class President
Admitted to the University of California, Davis campus in Architecture, 1956
Attended two years
Played varsity football, positions: quarterback & halfback, 1956-58
Member of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity
Transferred to U.C. Berkeley 1959, changed major to History and Military Science
Cal Rugby Team member, team won the World Championship cup two years in a row, 1963-64

Graduated U.C. Berkeley, June 1964 with a B.A. in History and Military Science
Graduated from Army ROTC as a 2nd Lt.

Captain John L. Barovetto was killed in action in Que Son Valley while commanding 'B' Troop 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry American Division in South Vietnam on January 7th, 1968*

CAPTAIN BAROVETTO ORGANIZED 110PE RATION HELPING HAND, THROUGH HIS PARENTS AND THE CITIZENS OF THE
CITY OF DAVIS. THROUGH THEIR EFFORTS, IN 1966-67, 2000 POUNDS OF SUPPLIES WERE SENT TO THE VILLAGE OF CHU LAI, AND IN 1967 68 ANOTHER 3,000 POUNDS OF FOOD AND SUPPLIES WERE SENT TO THE ORPHANAGE, CHURCH AND SCHOOL IN CU CHI, SOUTH VEITNAM. AFTER HIS DEATH, $2500.00 WAS SENT IN HIS NAME TO HIS COMMANDING OFFICER TO BE USED TO AID THE CHILDREN OF THE CONVENT lN CU CHI. HIS TROOP V0LUNTEERED MANY MAN HOURS TO RE-BUILDING THE CU CHI PROPERTY, BESIDES NAMING A RIFLE RANGE FOR HIM.
