Enlisted Army of the United States 3 June 1942 in San Francisco and sent to The Presidio of Monterey for induction.
Assigned to Camp Roberts, California as Private, Co B, 83d Infantry Training Battalion.
Promoted to Corporal, 12 October 1942; completed Infantry Replacement Center training program 13 October 1942 with the rank of Rifleman.
Assigned to Officers Candidate Course, Infantry School, Ft. Benning, Ga. 18 October 1942.
Graduated 15 January 1943.
