Enlisted 7 March 1942 for Flight Training Program, U.S. Naval Reserve, Corpus Christi, Texas. Graduated from the USNR Flight Training Program, 5 February 1943 and honorably discharged.

COMMISSIONED Second Lieutenant, USMCR, 5 February 1943; accepted appointment and assigned to active duty same date.
COMMISSIONED First Lieutenant, MCR, 30 July 1943. COMMISSIONED Captain, MCR, 1 June 1944.
