Military Training

Enlisted in the Army of the United States as Private, 19 August 1941.
Appointed Aviation Cadet, 16 December 1941 and assigned to AC Training Detachment, Ontario, California. Completed the Basic Training Program in the Army Flying School, Victorville, California.
Graduated from the Advanced Flying School, Mather Field, Sacramento, California, 23 June 1942.

COMMISSIONED Second Lieutenant, Air Corps Reserve, 23 June 1942 and entered on active duty same date.
COMMISSIONED First Lieutenant, AUS, 29 January 1943.
COMMISSIONED Captain, AUS, 3 October 1944.

Active Service Assignments

Captain Sherbourne served on many flying missions in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater from April 1943 to February 1944 when he was returned to the United States to serve as an instructor on several AAF bases.
In Service 3 years, 1 month and 21 days.

Captain Sherbourne died 15 October 1944, from injuries sustained in an aircraft accident.*
